The 2015 UCI World Tour road season was a wild ride. From spring classics to grand tours, there was no shortage of excitement and drama. In this video, the Global Cycling Network (GCN) provides their top 10 the best images from the 2015 season all captured by photographer Tim de Waele.

9) Gent Wevelgem – Geraint Thomas as a Ballerina in the Wind:

8) Paris-Roubaix – Playing “Chicken” with a Train:
As the train crossing gates lowered on a long peloton, some made it through, but some did not. The competition was fierce as many chose to cross after the gates were lowered, putting their own lives at risk and breaking the rules of the UCI.
In the final kilometer scramble to the finish of a stage of the Giro, Porte, a overall contender, acquired a flat tire. With no time to wait for his team car or neutral wheel support, a fellow country-man from a rival team Offered up his wheel to Porte. The sportsmanship was beautiful, but broke a UCI rule and Porte was docked 2 minutes dropping him out of contention.
6) Giro D’Italia – Alberto Contador Can’t Ride in the Dirt:
Contador wore the pink jersey for an incredible 16 days without ever winning a single stage. But on the penultimate stage of the Giro, he was Dropped and climbed alone.
5) Criterium Du Dauphine – 100km Rainy Breakaway Doesn’t Guarantee a Win for Vincenzo Nibali:
Nibali pushed a break of 5 clear at the Dauphine. As the rain soaked the group, Tony Martin was dropped in the hills. A decisive attack from Rui Costa gave him the win. Nibali did, however, gain enough time to snag the leader’s jersey.
4) Tour de France – Tony Martin’s Yellow Dream Turns to the Blue’s:
After a late attack on Stage 4 on a borrowed bike, Martin took the stage and the yellow jersey. But Stage 5 would wreck havoc as a pileup caused him to break his collar bone. Hoping to start the next day, Martin finished the stage with the help if his teammates.
3) Tour de France – Party like a Dutchman:
Riding through the infamous “Dutch corner,” flairs were ablaze as Froome defended his yellow jersey.
2) Vuelta A España – Tom Dumoulin Plays the Underdog, But Does Not Overcome:
Underdog, Dumoulin, keeps the red leader’s jersey until the final mountain stage. The climb was his breaking point and he lost 4 minutes on the stage sliding from 1st to 6th.
1) Road World Championships – The Patriots in Full-Force:
Virginia hosted the first World Championships on US soil since 1986 and the crowds were wild. With an incredible course that featured “Libby Hill,” the scene was ripe for a picture. This capture also included the eventual winner, Peter Sagan.
